Goddess of Spring

Persephone is no stranger to hardships. She grew up with an abusive father, was forced into marrying a man old enough to be her grandfather, and was abandoned by the man she loved. After a troublesome year that included disposing of her husband and bringing his land back to its former glory, Persephone is ready for more. She is ready to destroy the single source of every one of the struggles her life has handed her. With cunning plans and ruthless execution, she begins her work of bringing down her father. Yet along the way, Persephone’s efforts are slowed by rebuilding the friendship she shared with Abigail, supporting Elizabeth in her struggling marriage, and learning to love again. Persephone Book Two

I personally liked this one even better than the first. You see new sides to her character not revealed before. There are twists and turns around each page. Her new love interest is depicted so eloquently you might fall for him yourself.

Queen of Hell

1765. Persephone Nicholas has lived her twenty years with a father she cannot stand. Secluded on their plantation, Persephone feels she has a life destined for spinsterhood. "Life is Heaven for men and Hell for women" is her mantra. But on a visit to her cousin's wedding, she meets young Mr. Elijah Parker. Opportunities show that things can be much sweeter, and Persephone begins to question her thoughts on life. As the world continues to throw her hardships and struggle, Persephone chooses to fight and master the life she's been handed to become Queen of the Hell she's living in. Persephone Book One

I definitely recommend the story. I found it very easy to like Persephone while disliking her horrid father. Without giving away spoilers, Persephone’s evolution [to] a woman in control of her future is full of suspense.

The best friendships don’t seem to have a beginning and promise to last forever. When we are very lucky, we have friendships that last a lifetime. Matilda and Tessie were always friends and were always going to be friends until life got in the way. Growing up, health problems, and careers were not going to push them apart. As Matilda’s health declines, Tessie will do whatever it takes to keep her happy and healthy, including mild burglary and contemplating murder.
Thinking about death doesn’t seem to bother Matilda too much. Instead of worrying she tries to enjoy life while she has it, and do whatever she likes on a whim. This apathetic ideal only drives Tessie crazy.

This book surprised and inspired me as it unveils a new tale of friendship, explores the themes of deep longing, and how to cope with loss. Not to reveal too many spoilers, but the friendship displayed in the book will cause you to reflect on the relationships that matter most in your life and the lengths to which you would love a friend.
